US Navy veteran of World War II

LYNNFIELD — Dr. Frank V. Colombo, 91, of Lynnfield died on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at his residence.

Born in Everett on May 26, 1926, he was the son of the late Louis and Yolanda (Strianese) Colombo.

Dr. Colombo was a graduate of Everett High School, Class of 1944, Harvard University, Class of 1949 and Harvard Medical School, Class of 1953. He was a retired general surgeon who worked at Salem Hospital. Dr. Colombo had served in the United States Navy during World War II. He had been a Lynnfield resident since 1962, and was a member of the Memorial Drive Investment Club, Mass Medical Society, Essex South Medical Society, Lynnfield Historical Society and the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Colombo is survived by his wife Rita (Johnson) Colombo. He is also survived by his three sons: William L. Colombo and his wife Karen of Oakland, Calif.; Robert G. Colombo and his wife Lee; and Peter F. Colombo and his wife Debra, all of Andover. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Matthew, Justin, Daniel, Caroline, Jennifer, Scott and Hannah and his sister Joan Pratt of Houston, Texas. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Gordon, who resided in Irvine, Calif.

Visitation for relatives and friends was held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Sunday May 6. A memorial service was held at the Faith Lutheran Church, 360 So. Main St., Andover on Monday, May 7. Interment was private.
