He was the devoted husband of Judith A. “Judy” (Tracia) Mitchell for 33 years. He was the loving father of Richard Mitchell and his wife Tammy of New Hampshire; Joey Catanzariti and his wife Michele, also of New Hampshire; and Carmen Catanzariti and his wife Caroline of Saugus. He was the proud papa of six grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. “Bob” was the loving brother of Maryjane Savage and her husband John of Weymouth; and the late Barbara Dias and Donnie Mitchell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Born in Brighton on Sept. 11, 1940, Mitch was employed as a diesel mechanic at Exxon for many years before working as a dress man and limo driver for many local funeral homes in the Boston area, especially the Gately Funeral Home in Melrose, where Mitch was known for his larger than life personality helping many grieving families on the day of their loved one’s funeral.
Mitch enjoyed a good meal, his Corvette and motorcycle, and any and all dogs but mostly his beloved late Rottweiler “Diablo.”
A visitation was held in the Gately Funeral Home 79 West Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, Sept. 4 before a celebration of Mitch’s life. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Interment is private. To send a message of condolence, visit www.gatelyfh.com.
