U.S. Army veteran of WWII

LYNNFIELD — John F. LeFort, 96, of Lynnfield, died peacefully, Jan. 29, 2019 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, surrounded by his family.

Born in Nova Scotia, John came to America as an infant with his family and settled in North Cambridge. He was the son of the late Dennis and Mary (Chiasson) LeFort.

He proudly served as a sergeant in the United States Army during World War II. He worked for many years for Finest, National and Monarch Foods as a truck driver. After retirement, he worked for Land Rover and Greater Boston’s Lynn Way Auction, Inc.

He was the beloved husband of the late Alyce (Sullivan) LeFort. He is survived by his sister, Nora Peters of Locust Grove, Va.; as well as many loving nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased in death by his sisters, Hilda Crowley, Lucy Caruso, Gena LeFort, and brothers Sam, George, and Dennis LeFort.

His funeral was held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday, followed by a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Assumption Church, corner of Grove and Salem streets., Lynnfield. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury. Visitation for relatives and friends was at the funeral home on Monday.
