U.S. Army veteran served in the Vietnam War

LYNNFIELD — John R. Weideman, 79, of Lynnfield, beloved husband of 51 years to Alice (Serwatka) Weideman and the son of the late Clarence and Elin (Granquist) Weideman, died on June 11, 2020 after a brief illness.

Born in Lynn, and he was raised and educated in Saugus. John was a 2nd lieutenant of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. National Grid employed him for 40 years as an assistant engineer.

John was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, a member of both the St. Michael’s PNA Lodge 630 and PLAV Post 56. He was also a member of the woodcarver’s association and the Blown Fuses Association of National Grid.

John enjoyed playing golf, baseball and fishing. His biggest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, his son David Weideman and his wife Diana of Hooksett, New Hampshire; and his sister Elin Egan and husband George of Saugus survive John. His two grandsons, Drew and Dustin, and several nieces and nephews also survive him. His sister Christine Weideman predeceased him.

Visitation was in the Nadworny Funeral Home 798 Western Ave., Lynn, on Monday, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Lynnfield. Interment took place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Dana-Farber Div. of Development/Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Pl.
