A loving wife and mother who loved decorating for every holiday

WAKEFIELD — Josephine Breslin, 99, a lifelong resident of Wakefield, passed away peacefully at her daughter Jackie’s home surrounded by loving family members on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022.

Born in Lawrence on Oct. 8, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Antoinetta (Micevicz) Kurowski.

Josephine was a graduate of Wakefield High School, where she was very athletic and played multiple sports. She traditionally decorated her home both inside and out for every holiday. She would spend countless hours tending to her flowers and making clothes for her children. During the summer months, she would spend her time at the family lake home on Big Island Pond in Atkinson, New Hampshire. Later in life, she and her husband John would spend the winter traveling to various warm regions of the country in their mobile home. They eventually moved to Rochester, New Hampshire for the summers at Baxter Lake.

Josephine was the beloved wife of the late John A. Breslin. She was the loving mother of Barbara Downs and her husband, Ben, of Lynnfield; Jackie Purcell and her late husband, Tom, of Peabody; John Breslin and his wife, Lori-Ann, of Rockwood, Maine; Cynthia Ward and her husband, Tom, of North Andover; and Marsha Powers and her husband, Bill, of Brooksville, Florida. Twelve grandchildren, 19 great-grant children, and two great-great grandchildren with one on the way also survive Josephine. Josephine’s three sisters preceded her in death: Adele Doane, Genevieve Ballantyne, Anna Dunbeck, and two brothers Chester and Bruno Kurowski.

Her funeral mass was celebrated at St. Maria Goretti Church, 112 Chestnut St., Lynnfield on Saturday, Feb. 12. Relatives and friends attended the service. A private family viewing was held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield. Interment took place at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
