Decorated WWII veteran, physicist for Army Nuclear Weapons Dept.

LYNNFIELD — Leonard P. Grady, 94, of Lynnfield, died on Friday, May 7, 2021 at the Brudnick Center in Peabody.

He was born in Somerville on September 1, 1926 and was the son of the late Alexander and Elizabeth (Brignoli) Grady.

Leonard was a double Eagle; he attended both Boston College High School and Boston College. He was a decorated veteran of World War II and worked as a physicist for the U.S. Army Nuclear Weapons Department. He worked in management for Norelco, Boeing and General Dynamics. Leonard, with his wife Eleanor, were the founders of Grady and Associates, a computer supply company.

He enjoyed hosting family and friends at their cottage in New Hampshire or their house in Lynnfield. Many a days were spent in his vegetable gardens and making his own preserves grown at the cottage. Leonard and his wife hosted Thanksgiving dinner at the family house for over 50 years. The family attendance at this annual event was 40-plus people. Fun was had by all.

He was the beloved husband of the late Eleanor T. (Smith) Grady. He was the loving father of Richard P. Grady of Tewksbury, Robert S. Grady of North Reading, Christine D’Amboise of Kingston, New Hampshire, and the late Cynthia A. Connatser. Leonard was the grandfather of Clint, Jenna, Jason, Nicole, Michelle, Julie and Scott. He was also the great-grandfather of Lily, Hunter, Sedrick, Nyla, Josie and Morgan.

His funeral service was held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday, May 11. Visitation for relatives and friends was held at the funeral home on Tuesday prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. Interment took place at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 366 Cummings Highway, Roslindale.
