LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield High girls’ basketball team lost to guest Pentucket, 56-35, on Dec. 22. With that defeat, the Pioneers fell to 0-3 overall and in the Cape Ann League while the Sachems improved to 3-2 and 3-1 in the CAL.

The third quarter was the big one for the guests as they outscored the Pioneers 21-10 to turn a three-point halftime lead (20-17) to a 41-27 advantage heading into the fourth.

“They are such a strong team, we knew that they were going to eventually explode and that is what they did in the third quarter,” said Pioneers head coach Sue Breen. “Our girls did play hard.”

Maggie Ozanian, a junior, led the way for Lynnfield just missing a double-double for the second consecutive game with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Bella George and Erika Pasquale both tied for second in scoring with six points each.

Senior co-captain, Lucy Cleary, led the team in rebounds with 10.

Pentucket was led in scoring by Abby Dube who had a game-high 20 points as she hit five 3-pointers.

Lynnfield’s next game will be a non-league one as they go to Lowell to take on Collegiate Charter at 6 p.m. on Jan. 4.

The Pioneers then return to CAL action on Jan. 7 as they visit Triton at 6:30 p.m. Lynnfield then hosts Amesbury on Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
