WAKEFIELD — Icy road conditions apparently resulted in a crash at about 7:30 last night on Green Street near Shady Avenue that ended with a U.S. Postal Service mail truck propped up on the hood of a parked 2006 Hyundai Sonata.

The mail truck reportedly hit a fence and a tree before coming to rest on the hood of the car. Responding firefighters notified the DPW of the icy road conditions. The driver of the postal truck was not injured and refused medical treatment.

The crash remains under investigation, according to police.

The driver of a 1996 Ford F-350 was cited for failure to yield after the truck pulled out of the parking lot at Cumberland Farms at the head of the Lake and hit a 2016 Honda Accord that was traveling on Lowell Street at about 8:45 yesterday morning.

Just after noon yesterday, a Summer Street resident reported that about $500 worth of tools were stolen from his unlocked 2001 Chevy Silverado sometime overnight while it was parked in his driveway. The tools included screw guns, a Sawzall and an impact driver. All of the tools were “Milwaukee” brand.

Just before 4 p.m., a caller reported an orange Dodge truck repeatedly speeding on Melvin Street. Police spoke with the driver who denied any violations.

Police will summons a 43-year-old Lowell man to court for driving with a suspended license after police stopped the car he was driving on Salem Street at about 7:45 last night. Officer Matthew Powers stopped the car after he ran the registration of the 2002 Honda Civic that was driving in front of him and the registered owner’s license came back as suspended.

A 40-year-old Wakefield man will be summonsed to court for driving an uninsured motor vehicle after police stopped the car he was driving in the area Lake and Bartley streets because it had a headlight out.

A 21-year-old Everett man will be summonsed to court on multiple motor vehicle charges after police stopped the car he was driving for running a red light at North Avenue and Nahant Street just after 2 a.m. today. Officer Shane Pelletier was traveling south on Main Street in his cruiser when he observed a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta go through the red light and continue down Nahant Street. Pelletier determined that the driver had no license and no inspection sticker. He faces those charges as well as the red light violation.

The DPW reported a minor motor vehicle accident after a 2005 Ford F-450 hit a parked 1990 Volvo while backing up in the area of Salisbury and Cumberland roads at about 2:45 a.m. today.

The Fire Department responded to 10 calls yesterday, of which six were for medical aid.
