WOBURN – A man who allegedly brandished a knife at four police officers in town after an October incident was arraigned last week in Middlesex Superior Court.

According to an announcement from District Attorney Marian Ryan, John Almeida was arraigned on Friday, Feb. 17 and has a dangerous hearing scheduled for March 6, and is currently being held without bail.

The incident in question occurred on October 27, 2016, when Almeida was allegedly involved in a verbal and physical altercation with three women, two of them over the age of 60, at a residence on Lowell Street in Wakefield. In that incident, one of the women was allegedly pushed to the ground, another was allegedly punched and kicked, and the third was allegedly cut with a knife.

Later that evening in October, Almeida was located at an apartment in town by North Reading Police, and he allegedly brandished a knife at two Wakefield and two North Reading officers as they attempted to subdue him. According to North Reading Police Lieutenant and Detective Tom Romeo, no officers were injured in that incident, and the defendant was subdued and arrested in fairly short order. Almeida is facing four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon from the North Reading Police, as well as the assault charges from Wakefield.
