WAKEFIELD — A 31-year-old Everett man was arrested Saturday night on a slew of motor vehicle-related charges after police stopped the car he was driving on Route 128.
Police said that events unfolded around 8 p.m. as Officer John Whaley was working traffic enforcement at Salem Street and Audubon Road. Police said that Officer Whaley noticed that the driver of a white Honda Accord appeared to be focused on the screen of his phone as he pulled into the Sunoco gas station. The man reportedly then drove down Audubon Road and pulled into the Four Points at Sheraton hotel parking lot before coming back out a few minutes later, still staring at his phone.
Whaley was eventually able to stop the car on Route 128. The driver appeared shaken and Whaley observed a cup of water and some laxatives in the car. Police noted that drug dealers sometimes keep laxatives on hand to speed the drugs through the digestive system in case they get stopped by police and need to swallow the drugs. Police said that they found two large wads of cash totaling $2,000, but a search dog turned up no drugs in the car.
Police arrested Jamaal Kennedy of 87 St. Florence St. in Everett for driving on a revoked license (habitual traffic offender), a marked lanes violation, a lights violation and for reading/sending text messages while driving.
