WAKEFIELD — A 47-year-old Salem man was arrested on several charges after he allegedly sold another man a bag of heroin not far from Wakefied Square.

Police said Juan A. Reynoso, 67 Palmer St., apartment 2, Salem, was arrested Friday, Nov. 21, around 2:20 p.m. following observations made by Detectives Chris Grace and Ken Silva and Patrolman Megan Leary.

Officers began watching a man who was on foot in the Square. He was talking on the phone and, in the eyes of police, acting suspiciously. They followed him to Yale Avenue, where the man was met by another man driving a black Ford Focus. The Ford pulled up alongside and the first man entered, exiting just about a minute later.

It was soon determined the man had bought a bag of heroin from the driver of the black Ford.

Police followed the car and were able to stop the driver, Reynoso, on the northbound ramp of Exit 40 at the head of Lake Quannapowitt. As police began talking to him, Reynoso turned his head away and refused to cooperate. Eventually, he became combative as well.

Traffic on Route 128 began to slow as motorists were curious about what was happening.

Reynoso was charged with distribution of a Class A drug, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer and disorderly conduct.

He was scheduled to be arraigned today in Malden District Court.
