Dedicated to her family, loved traveling

LYNNFIELD — Longtime Lynnfield resident Margaret Barnett Heglund, 104, died peacefully on Jan. 29, 2024.

Margaret was born in Whitehall, Montana on Oct. 26, 1919. She grew up in Richland, Washington on her parents’ farm while surrounded by orchards and chickens with her two sisters, Myrtle Grace and Mabel, and her two brothers, Dan and David.

She went to the University of Washington in Seattle, where she met Floyd Walter Heglund from Everett, Washington. They married in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1942, and promptly moved to the Mojave Desert, where their daughters, Karen and Nancy, were born. Their son, Norman Charles, was born following their return to Lynn.

The family moved to Lynnfield in 1955. After raising Karen, Nancy and Norman, Margaret and Floyd spent many happy years traveling with family and friends across the U.S. and Canada, and to Europe, Africa and Asia.

In 2003, they moved from their beloved but demanding farmhouse in Lynnfield to an apartment in Brooksby Village in Peabody. Margaret’s husband Floyd, better known as Slim, died on April 8, 2006. Margaret continued to travel with her family until she was 95.

She will be missed by her children Karen, Nancy and Norm, her seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Margaret will be buried at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday July 11 at the Forest Hill Cemetery on Forest Hill Avenue, Lynnfield. The McDonald Funeral Home in Wakefield is handling the arrangements.
