Whipplingobit-webWAKEFIELD — Margaret S. “Peggy” Whipling, 97 of Wakefield, passed away June 9 in Melrose at the Golden Living Center Elmhurst Nursing Home.

She was born in Malden on October 16, 1919, and was the daughter the late Morris F. and Margaret L. (Edmands) Stoddard.

Peggy was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1937, and Malden Business School. She was a lifelong Wakefield resident, and a former employee of John Hancock Life Insurance.

She was a member of the First Parish Congregational Church, and volunteered for many years at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Peggy was an accomplished seamstress and knitter, and also made silver jewelry. She was a past president of the Wakefield Arts and Crafts Society, past president of her chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and also had been a member of the Gloucester Power Squadron, and The Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead.

Margaret and her late husband Henry enjoyed sailing in the summer and skiing in the winter.

Peggy was the beloved wife of the late Henry F. Whipling. She was the loving mother of Judith Pierce Whipling of Wakefield. She was the sister of the late Morris F. Stoddard Jr. and his wife Nathalie M. Stoddard. Peggy was the loving grandmother of Kimberly Krasowski and her husband Joseph of Chester, NH, and Erica Schwarz and her husband Joseph of Melbourne, FL. She was the great grandmother of Sophia Wargo, James Schwarz, and Emily and Joseph Krasowski. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home and will be private.
