A generous spirit with a kind soul who loved the beach and reading 

MELROSE — Mary Ellen Boyle (née Cass) of Melrose sadly passed away on May 14 after a brief illness. 

She was born and raised in Rollinsford, NH where she met her husband of 50 years. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas HS in Dover, NH, class of 1969. Mary was a resident of Melrose for 41 years where she built a beautiful life with her family.

She is survived by her husband Frank Boyle; her three daughters Alyson Leavy, Jillian and Brittany Boyle; her two darling granddaughters Charlotte and Cammy Leavy; step grandson Luke O’Hanlon; and son in laws Michael Leavy and Travis O’Hanlon. She was a beloved sister to Richard Cass and Anne Campbell of Hendersonville, NC; Bill and Colleen Cass of Laconia, NH; and Paul and Andrea Cass of Rollinsford, NH. She was a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her mother and father Harley and Theresa Cass of Rollinsford, NH and her sister Margaret Cass of Surprise, AZ. Mary was a devoted wife, loving mother, amazing Grammy, beloved sister, aunt and a lifelong friend to so many.

After graduating from UNH, Mary had a long career as an Occupational Therapist. She worked at SEEM collaborative helping children and also helped many others while working at Bear Hill Rehab and Nursing Center. She spent many years as a board member for the Melrose Youth Ballet. Mary had a passion and talent for sewing and in retirement, especially enjoyed making many projects for the people she loved. She loved the beach, reading, spending time with her family and being a grandmother. Mary had a generous spirit, a kind soul, sharp wit, great intellect and always put others first. She made a significant impact on all who loved her and she will be greatly missed.
