LYNNFIELD — The Masconomet-Lynnfield High co-op gymnastics team finished 7-1 overall last winter as they came in second place in the Northeastern Conference- Cape Ann League to Beverly. The Chieftains also qualified for the North Sectionals where they came in ninth place out of 12 teams.

Two seniors from that team graduated but fourth-year head coach Chelsea O’Hara returns 13 veterans back this year. Four of those veterans back are this year’s senior captains and they are all from Masconomet. The quad-captains are Lylah Paine, Ryder Burliss, Hannah Callahan and Miranda Marks.

The two juniors back are Danielle Tremblay and Victoria Guarino and both go to Masconomet.

Seven sophomores return, Nicole Bonacosro, Katerina Cote, Catherine DiNanno, Anna Schmidt, Micayla Cameron, Caroline Folsom and Jackie Tanner.

Bonacorso and DiNanno were both NEC-CAL All-Stars last year.

Schmidt is from Lynnfield while the other girls go to Masconomet.

The two freshmen on the team are from Lynnfield: Alexis Allain and Kieran Lampert, who along with Schmidt, accounts for the three total members from Lynnfield.

With the addition of Malden and Medford to the league, the league is split into two divisions. The Chieftains are in the North division with Beverly, Danvers- North Reading, Winthrop, Peabody and Marblehead.

The team will have eight total meets this year.

“I have high expectations this year,” said O’Hara. “We have a huge team with 26 members and a lot of them are club gymnasts. I hope that we can not only reach the sectionals, but the state finals as well.”

O’Hara feels that Beverly is still the team to beat in the league even though they are a little more vulnerable this season.

“They did lose a lot of seniors from last year’s team,” pointed out O’Hara.

The season opener is this Saturday night at 6 p.m. as they host Peabody and Salem in a tri-meet at Yellow Jackets in Middleton.
