Donegan-Obit-webNORTH READING — Maurice H. Donegan, Jr. – 86, of North Reading and formerly of Reading, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading.

Born in Winchester, on July 19, 1928, he was the son of the late Maurice H., Sr. and Doris (Bright) Donegan. He was raised and attended school in Reading and was a graduate of Reading High School, Class of 1946. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving from 1946 to 1948.

Maurice worked for many years as a self–employed carpenter. He was a resident of North Reading for the past 58 years and was a member of St. Agnes’s Church in Middleton. He volunteered in many activities with his children, such as Cub Scouts, Baseball and Pop Warner Football. He was a member of the Finance Committee for the Town of North Reading and he also helped build the town bandstand on the common with his son Maurice, in time for the town’s celebration of the 1976 Bicentennial.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed traveling with his family in the truck camper. He traveled up and down the East Coast from Canada to Florida.

Family members include his beloved wife of 58 years, Eleonora (Lucci) Donegan; his loving sons, Maurice H. Donegan, III and his wife Elena Lewis of Madison, Alabama, Dennis Donegan, Mark Donegan and his wife Cheryl, all of North Reading; his loving daughter, Theresa Devane and her husband Thomas of Scituate; brothers, Thomas Donegan of Readfield, ME and William Donegan of Revere; sisters, Mary Stuckey and her husband Bob of VA and Alice Watson and her husband John of Reading; also survived by six loving grandchildren.

A memorial funeral Mass will be held at St. Agnes’s Church, 22 Boston Street (Rt. 62), Middleton on Saturday, November 15 at 9 a.m. There will be no calling hours.
