NORTH READING — The red–hot North Reading High baseball team improved to 8–0 last Saturday as they blanked Georgetown, 8–0, at home. Mike McCauley was the story of this one as the junior pitched his first career no–hitter to go to 3–0 on the season. He struck out 12 and only walked one.

“He was lights out from the beginning,” stated Hornets manager Eric Archambault. “He had all three pitches working.”

North Reading’s offense had six hits against the Royals. Pat Driscoll had the big blow with a three-run triple in the bottom of the fourth inning. He ended the day going 2 for 2 with a walk and four runs batted in. Shawn DiVecchia was 1 for 2 with three RBI and one walk. Bob Donohue also had an RBI on a fielder’s choice.

Mike Driscoll scored three times as he was 1 for 1 with a walk and he was also hit by a pitch.

At Manchester–Essex last Thursday, North Reading won, 5–1. Pitcher Greg Johnson improved to 3–0 with a complete game effort. The run he gave up was unearned as he allowed four hits. He fanned four and walked only one.

“He had quick innings and only threw 73 total pitches,” explained Archambault.

North Reading had four hits led by John Merullo who was 2 for 3 with a two run single in the top of the second inning.
