Annual showcase held at Bear Hill Golf Club

STONEHAM — For the Wakefield Memorial High golf team, it was a family affair at the Middlesex League Golf Shootout on Thursday morning at the Bear Hill Golf Club. That’s because the Melanson cousins, Dylan, David and Stephen, were the three Warrior representatives in the annual showcase of the league’s top golfers.

Junior co-captain Dylan Melanson played at number one for Wakefield and shot a 78. Playing at two was David Melanson, a sophomore, and he also shot a 78. Both played well according to Head Coach Dennis Bisso.

Stephen Melanson, a junior, was a late substitute for senior co-captain Kevin Lamattina who has been dealing with a back injury. The junior shot a 97.

Belmont’s Mike Pergamo had the low score of the day with a 75, while Lexington’s Connor Boeglin finished second with a 76.

In the team scoring, Wakefield finished with 253 total points playing on its home course.

Belmont had the low team scoring with 235 points, while Lexington was next with 242. Winchester and Reading had scores of 249 and both Woburn and Arlington had scores of 252. Wakefield and Burlington were next as both tallied a 253. Wilmington totaled 260, Stoneham shot a 261, Watertown scored 279 and Melrose rounded out the 12 teams with a 285.

Wakefield returns to its other home course, the Thomson Country Club, this afternoon at 3:15 p.m. to take on Watertown and Belmont. The Watertown contest is regularly scheduled match, while Belmont is a makeup of a postponement last week.
