MELROSE—The future is now for Melrose girls’ basketball with a great season by the 8th grade girls travel team. They had an injury and COVID plague season but never lost the ultimate goal of bring home the championship to Melrose.

The team is made up of a very strong group of ladies that never give up. Down by 15 points (17-2) in the quarter final round the team played a hard nose full court defense to get the game into OT and score the only 6 points to win.

In the semifinal and championship games the team took the lead from the beginning and never gave it up. The championship game was against a Pelham team that had beaten them twice in the regular season, but the ladies would not be denied and worked for, since the 6th grade, winning the championship by 10 points. Most of the ladies play off season for Universal Basketball Training out of Danvers Indoor Sports and are getting ready to go right back to work for the spring basketball season.
