WAKEFIELD—The Melrose Band scored a huge first place win and a gold medal at the Wakefield NESBA Marching Band Competition this past Saturday, scoring an impressive 91.75—the best of the season! They also took home top awards for Best Music and Best Overall Effect, following a strong second-place finish in Reading just a week prior.

After this last competition of the regular season, the band is now gearing up for the Finals on Sunday, November 3, at Lawrence Veterans Memorial Stadium, where they’ll compete against seven other bands in their division. This is the first time all seven bands will compete in the same space and it will be tough competition. The band will be ready and hopes to pack the stadium with fans when they take the field at 4:50pm.

Band Director Ben Vermilyea couldn’t be prouder of the hard work everyone has put in this season. “From starting this show at band camp in mid-August, our 65-member group—made up of students from grades 8 to 12—has really come together to showcase their unique style. Their commitment to precision and musical expression is truly inspiring,” he said.

The band also invites everyone to join them this Friday night, November 1, on Fred Green Field in Melrose for Senior Night, where they’ll celebrate the dedication of band, football, and cheerleading seniors during the game against Wilmington.

Let’s go, Melrose!
