MELROSE — The City of Melrose is sharing the following updates for the upcoming week:

Register to vote in the Nov. 5 election

The state, federal and presidential election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, with polls open for all registered Melrose voters at Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School, 90 Melrose Street, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The deadline to register to vote is Saturday, October 26 at 5 p.m. Register in-person at City Hall or online at www.sec.state.ma.us/ovr/.

Voters can cast their ballot in one of three ways: In-person Early Voting, Vote by Mail, or In- person on November 5, 2024. For more information, email elections@cityofmelrose.org or call (781) 979-4125.

Early in-person voting will begin at Melrose City Hall on Sunday, October 20 and continue until Friday, November 1. The full Early Voting schedule can be found at www.cityofmelrose.org/2024- early-voting.

Melrose Conservation Commission Clean-Up Day

The Melrose Conservation Commission is hosting a volunteer clean up event on Saturday, October 12, from 9 am to noon, rain or shine. Volunteers will collect trash and clean up trails near Towners Pond and Swains Pond as well as focusing on the Hillside Park Trail off Dexter Road. Volunteers should meet at the entrance to Flagg Acres, located between 315 and 325 Swains Pond Ave. at 9 a.m. Saturday. Wear work gloves and boots! Final Barrel Take-Back and Rigid Plastics Recycling at City DPW Yard Oct. 12

The Department of Public Works will host a Barrel & Bin Take-Back and Rigid Plastics Recycling Day at the Melrose City Yard, 72 Tremont Street, on Saturday, October 12 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. This event is a way for residents to recycle or give away trash and recycling barrels which no longer comply with the City’s curbside collection program. In addition to barrels, residents can drop off bulky rigid plastics such as lawn chairs, planting pots, laundry baskets, milk crates and plastic toys.

Film screening Oct. 17

Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that happening with her own kids, which started her on a quest to delve into how it might affect their development. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, Screenagers reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions on how adults can empower their kids to best navigate the digital world to find balance.

Melrose Health and Human Services, Melrose Rec, and the Melrose Health & Wellness Coalition will host a showing of Screenagers: Growing Up in The Digital Age at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 17 at the Milano Senior Center, 201 West Foster Street. All are welcome!

Flu vaccines available on Oct. 29

The Melrose Department of Health and Human Services will offer free influenza vaccinations to any Melrose resident during the Mayor’s Senior Resource Fair on Tuesday, October 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Melrose Memorial Hall, 590 Main Street.

The regular Sanofi Pasteur Fluzone vaccine will be available for anyone over 5 years old and the high-dose vaccine will be available to individuals 65 years and older.
