MELROSE — The Melrose Cultural Council announces the award of 21Local Cultural Council (LCC) grants totaling $10,300 for events and programs that will take place in Melrose during the 2019 calendar year. Thirty applications were submitted. The deadline for submission was October 15.
Grants have been awarded to first time applicants, established arts organizations, artists and schools. Events are scheduled in Memorial Hall, the Melrose Public Library, the Milano Senior Center, leased and loaned spaces in churches, at parks, and regional theaters. Students in preschools, elementary, middle and high school will benefit from theater and science enrichment.
Grant Recipients for 2019:
Beethoven Society of Melrose, Brendan Carroll’s Irish Celebration, Delvena Theatre Company’s Isabella production, Friends of the Fells Invasive Plant Species Education, Greater Boston Stage Company Discounted Tickets Program, Look What’s Happening Melrose Calendar, Melrose Arts and Crafts, Melrose Arts Festival, Melrose Bandaiders Spring Pops Concert, Melrose Open Studio Tour, and Melrose Human Rights Commission’s MLK Day of Service.
Also, Melrose Public Library’s Summer Reading Kick-off Concert, Melrose Symphony Orchestra’s A Night At the Opera concert, North Suburban Child & Family Resource Network’s Science Teller’s Program, Polymnia Choral Society’s Revolver Concert, Roger Tincknell’s This Land is Your Land Community Concert, Roosevelt Elementary’s Aladdin Jr production, Sally Frank Farmers Market’s Music at the Market, Spring Fling Intergenerational Dance, Temple Beth Shalom’s Keeping Jazz Alive Concert, Trinity Community Concert Series.
The Melrose Cultural Council (MCC) is part of a statewide network supporting community-based projects in the arts, sciences, and humanities. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the MCC, which then allocates funds to each community. Grant awards are decided by a board of local volunteers who live or work in the community. Current board members are: Eileen Christiansen, Arleen Frasca, Sara Gravante, Martha Grover, Eric Heath, Karen Konicek, Luke Miller, Kris Rodolico, Martina Tramontozzi, Dorothy Travis, Diane Wall, and Jason Webb.
