MELROSE — Pink lawn flamingos will be visiting Melrose again starting on May 2 to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, which runs through May 6 this year.

The flamingos are a longstanding fundraising tradition for the Melrose Education Foundation, raising awareness and support for the innovative work of Melrose teachers.

“Our teachers are looking to try new things, enrich their curricula, and respond innovatively to challenges and opportunities in the classroom every day,” said Melrose Education Foundation President Jessica Dugan. “While the flamingos are fun, they are also a symbol of our community’s investment in our teachers, who work tirelessly to bring learning to life in classrooms across the city.”

Teacher Appreciation Week seems extra important this year as we realize the continued impact of the pandemic on students and educators. Each day next week, the Melrose Education Foundation will feature on its Facebook page a different grant recipient to highlight the innovative learning experiences created by Melrose teachers this year.

With support from this community last year, the Melrose Education Foundation provided $35,000 in grants directly to teachers for the 2021-2022 school year.

They are striving to support even more teacher innovation next year! Share your appreciation for Melrose teachers — either flock some friends or make a direct donation to the Melrose Education Foundation.
