MELROSE –– Melrose has named former Chamber of Commerce Executive Director and Melrose resident Lauren Grymek as the City’s first Director of Recovery and Business Development. Grymek will join the office of Mayor Paul Brodeur on March 1, 2022.

Grymek brings with her more than 15 years of business, finance, and communication experience and holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Simmons School of Management. From 2016 to 2021, Grymek served the City of Melrose as the Executive Director of the Melrose Chamber of Commerce, through which she supported the growth of the City’s business community and oversaw four signature community events. Most recently, Grymek has served as the Executive Director of the International Women’s Forum of Massachusetts.

“We’re thrilled to announce that come March 1, Lauren Grymek will be hitting the ground running as the City’s first Director of Recovery and Business Development,” said Mayor Brodeur. “The goals for this new role are to provide local support to our business community and address the short-term and long-term side effects of the pandemic. Lauren’s work will be essential to the City’s economic recovery, given her track record of successful event planning and increasing revenues right here in Melrose. “

Under the guidance of Mayor Paul Brodeur and his Chief of Staff Margot Fleischman, Grymek will strategically position the City of Melrose to compete regionally for economic development opportunities and work to connect existing local businesses, non-profits arts, and other organizations that have been negatively affected by the pandemic with the resources they need to thrive in the current economy.

“I am extremely excited to work with Melrose’s business community again, and to serve the City in this new capacity,” said Grymek.

The overriding goal of the City of Melrose, which considers each employee its most valuable asset, is to hire and employ great people and live up to its motto, “Melrose: One Community Open to All.” To view current employment opportunities with the City of Melrose, visit, and o subscribe to Melrose’s City News, visit
