1-0 Melrose hosts Burlington tonight

SAUGUS—The Melrose High gymnastics team is off to a 1-0 start after kicking off their season on Friday, January 3 at the Saugus YMCA with a 129.9-128.65 win over Arlington.

Melrose enters tonight’s key league meet against Burlington a solid 1-0 to the season.

Melrose took all for events against the Spy Ponders, with their best effort of the night a solid vault event. Collectively they scored 34.1 points behind the work of Noah Williamson (8.8) and teammates Ashley Muller (8.55), Isabella Ferranti, Maya Weissman, Sumin Kang and Abby Dennison.

Melrose also had a solid floor performance, led by efforts from Isabella Ferranti, who competed All Around for Melrose along with teammate Ashley Muller, who competed in floor, beam bars and vault.

In beam, Melrose enjoyed at best score of 8.05 via senior captain Maya Weissman. Sumin Kang and Aislin Savage also scored nicely on the floor.

Tonight, Burlington comes into the meet on a win that totaled 129 points, so for Melrose and the Red Devils it can be anyone’s win.

Action takes place at the Saugus YMCA at 7:00 p.m.
