MELROSE — School officials use a lot of different data to determine how well kids are learning, but the 2024 U.S. News & World Report ranking of the country’s best high schools should be welcome news for all stakeholders in the city’s educational system.

Melrose High ranks 60th best in the state and 1,568th best in the country in the most recent annual U.S. News & World Report results. Scoring a 91.12, Melrose High had 67 percent of students taking at least one Advanced Placement exam; 48 percent passed at least one AP exam; students showed a math proficiency of 61 percent, a reading proficiency of 78 percent and a science proficiency of 64 percent, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Also, minority enrollment is 25 percent, the student to teacher ratio is 13:1 and the school enjoys a graduation rate of 97 percent.

The top high school in the state is Boston Latin, followed by Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School and Lexington High School.
