MELROSE—The American League hosted the National League on a perfect day for baseball at Lewis Monk Field.

After a scoreless top of the first behind some sharp pitching by Nate Geer the Americans jumped to a 4-0 lead. Anthony Kiatos and Justin Santoriello had back to singles, followed by Nate Geer getting hit by a pitch to load the bases. Thomas Santoriello plated Kiatos and Justin Santoriello with a single to right field. Jack Thompson scored pinch runner Ray Willis with a single and CJ Cook brought in Thomas Santoriello with a single to center. The Nationals avoided further damage when centerfielder Robert Pino made a running catch on a line drive by Chris Beaudet and then completed the double play with a nice throw to second base.

The Nationals answered with three in the top of the second with Wesley Rosell working a walk followed by a single by Nicholas Picariello. Rosell and Picariello would score on a hit by Liam O’Brien. Ronan Sanzone would bring in O’Brien with a line drive hit to right field. Bryce Timm, who was injured and could not participate in the game help his team from the bench.

After a scoreless top of the third behind the pitching of Richie Harrison, that featured a long at bat by Cameron Orlandella, the Americans would take the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Kiatos and Justin Santoriello again led off with back to back singles and would both score on a single by Nate Geer. Geer then scored off a single by Thomas Santoriello. With Santoriello coming around to score on a single by Jack Thompson.

The fourth inning, which was the only inning in which there no runs scored featured great pitching as Thomas Santoriello pitched a scoreless top of the forth. Jack Ludlow knocked a hard-hit ball off the bat of Liam O’Brien down and then made the throw to first to end the inning with a runner on second. For the Nationals Cole Mathews had a clean inning with good defense being provided by Brody MacMaster who made a diving catch at short stop off the bat of Tanner Kovacs, Michael Fix with an unassisted force out at second and Brayden S. who jumped out from behind the plate to grab a dribbler in front of home and threw out Ray Willis at first base on a bang, bang play to end the inning.

The Nationals attempted their comeback in the top of the 5th with Ronan Sanzone leading off with a single, followed by a single by Nate Zimmerman. Cole Mathews would walk to load the bases and Aisling Donegan would work a walk to score Sanzone. Jack Thompson then worked out of the bases loaded jam with two strike outs to end the threat.

After Americans scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th CJ Cook came on in the top of six to close out the victory with both Ray Willis and Justin Santoriello making nice catches in the OF. After single by Nicholas Picariello, Cook would end the rally and the game, by making a play himself on a ball hit back to the mound.
