MELROSE — Bring a mask and an eye for art to this Sunday’s Summer Arts Market, hosted outside at the Beebe Estate on August 2, 12 – 5 p.m. Modeled after the successful opening of the Sally Frank Farmer’s Market, about a dozen artists will exhibit and sell their work from under canopy tents spaced out across the lawn, with volunteers directing traffic to ensure safe, social-distancing protocols.

Organized by the popular Melrose Open Studio Tour (MOST), which has showcased dozens of local artists annually in late fall since 2017, the open air market is a great way for families and art patrons to celebrate and support the Melrose arts community this summer.

Participating artists include:

• Agusta Agustsson, textile artist

• Matt Bernson, caricatures

• Sally Bowman Gordon, paper collage/acrylics

• Sara Gravante, painting/printmaking

• Catalina Moreno, mixed media

• Brian and Theresa Orr, paper art

• Amelia Roberts, painting

• Caroline Sainis, folkart

• Laurie Schmidt, metalwork

• Penelope Young, fiber

• Crosscut Sewing Co.

• Hourglass Gift Gallery

• KT Creative Goods, essential oils

“Thanks to the city’s guidance and leadership in organizing events to date during the pandemic, we’re excited to be able to offer this summer arts showcase,” says Demi Dubois, organizer of the Melrose Open Studio Tour.

According to MOST, the five-hour sale will provide ample opportunity to view the exhibits while ensuring crowd sizes remain low at any one time.

Dubois says plans for the annual Open Studio tour are still developing, but that this summer event was a great way to proactively support local artists in the short-term during a year when access to art sales and exhibits has been extremely limited.

The Beebe Estate is located at 235 West Foster Street, Melrose. The rain date for this event is August 9. For more information, visit https://www.melroseopenstudios.org/
