Senior Day took place prior to Winchester meet

MELROSE—The Melrose High boys’ swim team gathered last week to honor their seniors at before the start of their home meet against Winchester at the Melrose YMCA pool. Melrose took the time to celebrate their dozen seniors who bid goodbye this season. 

They include: senior captains Jared Dowell, swimming the 200 Free and 500 free, Connor McDaid, swimming the 100 Breaststroke and 200 medley relay, and Sam Foley who competes in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 back, medley relay and current serves as cast. of the Melrose YMCA Sharks. And their senior teammates, Sean Cady, Collin Coyne, Dave Kurti, Owen Markham, Will McCarthy, Colin Mullane, Tom Sternberg, Calvin White and Pat Donahue.

Despite Winchester taking an eventual 50-38 win, Melrose had some impressive swims, including a first place finish in the 200 free relay behind the efforts of Sebastian Monzon, Will McCarthy, Tom Steinberg and Sam Foley. Melrose’s 200 medley enjoyed another strong performance with a finish of 1:58.69 behind the swimming of Connor McDaid, Sam Foley, Tom Steinberg and Will McCarthy. The 400 yard relay team was manned by Thiago Nunes, Daniel Bouvier, Gabriel Monzon and Conlan Cesar and came in at 4:15.71. Right behind them were the team of Collin Coyne, Will McCarthy, Colin Mullane and Eamonn Burke at 4:34.21. 

In the 100 yard breaststroke Melrose’s Connor McDaid finished at 1:12.41 and teammate Eamonn Burke 1:18.44. Collin Coyne finished with a 1:17.14 in the 100 back. Patrick Donahue finished at 1:02.91 in the 500 free and teammate Colin Mullane 7:08.29. Tom Steinberg swam a 1:07.70 in the 100 fly and Devin McDaid 1:15.60.  

Sam Foley and Dan Bouvier swam well in the 100 free with times of 1:02.13 and 1:07.0 respectively. And in the 50 free Melrose’s Sam Foley and Will McCarthy had Melrose’s best time with a 26.22 and 26.50 finish. 

This Thursday, Melrose will take part in the Middlesex League Meet (post deadline) at Bentley University.
