READING—The Melrose High boy’s swim team had an excellent appearance at the 2022 Middlesex League Meet at the Reading Burbank YMCA on Sunday, Feb. 6, with several medal-worthy finishes by their talented crew.

It was a big day Ben Terentiyev and Andrew DiFiore who collected multiple medals. Terentiyev was third in the 100 breast with a time of 1:05, a personal best, and he also placed an impressive 5th in the 200 IM. DiFiore also had a day. He was third in the 100 free and 4th in the 50 free. The two, who will compete in a post season for Melrose, led an overall strong Melrose squad who swam to many personal bests.

Those included the well-rounded Gabe Hunnicutt who represented Melrose in several events, including the 100 back, 100 fly and in relay. Freshman Arthur Hitchman capped off a strong first season with swims in the 100 fly and 100 back. Senior Nick Sasso had a 8th place finish in the 200 free.

Melrose’s 200 free relay team also medaled with a 5th place finish behind the work of Ben Terentiyev, William Lowe, Daniel Muller and Andrew DiFiore.

Freshman Owen Broduer had a nice showing in the 100 breast along with teammate Zachary Hunnicutt. Owen Erelli and Nikolai Mohan swam strong in the 100 back.

Melrose’s distance races were in good thanks thanks to William Lowe who had a great 7th place showing, and teammate Jonah Peters (15th). Zachary Hunnicutt and many Red Raiders swam the 50 free including Gabe Hunnicutt, Jonah Peters, Damian Am, Nico Mohan, Arthur Hitchman and Owen Brodeur.

As a team, Melrose placed 6th overall. Up next will be appearances at MIAA North Sectionals to be held on Feb. 13. Both Terentiyev and DiFiore will represent Melrose in several events. Stay tuned.
