New captains named for 2021-22

SAUGUS—The 2021 Melrose High volleyball team enjoyed one last gathering with an outside celebration of their league championship season. The socially distanced event was a night to honor the team and their outgoing seniors: Sofia Centrella, Eva Haralabatos, Grace Sanderson and captain Emily Hudson. 

Melrose earned its fourteenth consecutive league title this year, undefeated at 12-0 going into league tourney play. The combined record of the program between varsity and its two junior varsity teams was an astounding  29-2.

Awards and recognitions were distributed by coaches Scott Celli, Ryan Schmitt, and Lydia Mays.

Junior varsity awards included: MVP JVA: Ava Tormo. Most Improved Manon Marchais. MVP JVB: Abigail Smith. 

Captains for the 2021 season were also announced. Returning as captains are junior Autumn Whelan and sophomore Chloe Gentile, along new captains juniors Elena Soukos and Abby Hudson.

These teams will get just a few months off before they resume their Fall 2021 season in late August.
