STONEHAM — George A. Beote, 72, longtime resident of Stoneham, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.

Born in Salem on December 1, 1947, George is one of four children of the late Joseph E. and Ruth L. (née Patenaude) Beote Sr. He grew up in Salem, graduating from Salem High School in 1965.

After graduating, George enlisted in the United States Navy in 1966. He served as a Crypto Operator, being stationed in Morocco. While in the Navy, he took up playing the drums and bass. He joined a small band with his fellow service members playing gigs here and there. He continued his love of playing music into his later years.

After being honorably discharged, George came back to Massachusetts. Not long after, he met the Alice-Jean Savage at a local nightclub. After a few attempts at getting her to go out, and getting turned down, Alice-Jean finally agreed to go out with him, and that date was the beginning of 46 years of a loving, strong marriage.

First living in Everett, the Beotes moved to Stoneham where they would raise their family and enjoy their years together.

George started work for the Boston and Maine Railroad, and then took a job at the MBTA. He became a Chief Power Dispatcher, a job which he really enjoyed. He retired after 25 years of service to the T, making many lifelong friends.

Family meant the world George. He was active in the lives of his children and his granddaughter Alexandra was his pride and joy. He had a knack for cooking and took great pride in making meals for family and friends. Dear Alice-Jean had the cleanup duty, a deal those two had made years earlier. He would find recipes on the internet and tweak them to his liking. Every year he made a big St. Patrick Day dinner for everyone.

Among George’s other interests, he enjoyed going on cruises with Alice-Jean, going camping with his family at Apache Campground in Sanford, Maine, which was an almost every weekend event. He also liked to occasionally try his luck at the casino, enjoyed the quick trip to Las Vegas, and continued to play the bass guitar with his friends.

George’s kindness, love, sense of humor and companionship will be missed by all who loved and knew him.

George was the beloved husband of Alice-Jean (née Savage) Beote with whom he shared 46 years of marriage. Devoted father of Jason M. Beote and his wife Sarah of Pelham, N.H., and Lauren E. Beote and her companion David Smith of Stoneham. Loving brother of Cynthia Zimmerman of Lakeland, Fla., the late Joseph E. Beote Jr. and his surviving wife Ellen, and Michael Beote and his surviving wife Christine. Cherished grandfather of Alexandra Beote, and proud uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends gathered in honor of George’s life for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, Feb. 18 and again on Wednesday before leaving in procession to St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham for his funeral Mass.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in George’s memory may be made to Ella’s Army, TD Bank, 79 Lynnfield St., Peabody, MA. 01960.
