MELROSE — Anna L. (Maguire) O’Brien, 93, a lifelong resident of Melrose, died peacefully on Christmas morning at Bear Hill Nursing Center.
Anna was born in Woburn on June 10, 1927, to the late James and Lillian (Justice) Maguire. She was raised in Melrose and attended St. Mary’s School.
Anna worked at Faulkner’s Cleaners in Melrose for over 50 years. She was an avid fan of Boston sports teams and Notre Dame football, and she enjoyed attending her son’s hockey and softball games. Anna loved sitting on her back deck with family and friends, and she was an avid bingo player. Much of her time was dedicated to Most Blessed Sacrament Church, where she was a member of the Women’s Guild and a Eucharistic Minister. She also gave out Communion at local nursing homes and prayed the rosary with the residents.
Anna was the beloved wife of the late Donald O’Brien. She is survived by her loving son Michael O’Brien of Melrose. She was the caring sister of James Maguire II, John Maguire, Lillian Maguire Dunn, Frances Maguire Gensler, Ruth Maguire Doucette, and Thomas Maguire and his wife Anna. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brothers-in-law Frank and Larry, as well as her sister-in-law Virginia, and their their parents George and Mildred O’Brien.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield, on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021. Interment follows at Riverside Cemetery, North Reading. Relative and friends are respectfully nvited to attend. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Anna’s memory to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
