MELROSE — Barbara E. Stamegna, 93, of Melrose, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2020.

Born on September 14, 1926 to Herbert and Adeline Allen, Barbara was raised in Medford and graduated from Medford High School. She later moved to Melrose in 1952 with her late husband Donald to raise their family.

She was the beloved wife of 67 years to the late Donald R. Stamegna. Loving and devoted mother of Susan L. Martin of Calif., Donald R. Stamegna of Rockport, Richard A. Stamegna of Beverly, Nancy C. Gargano of Hudson, Joseph P. Stamegna of Saugus, Betsy A. Spiro of Conn., Peter A. Stamegna of Medford, Paul J. Stamegna of Melrose and the late Francis J. Stamegna of Melrose. Also survived by 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Barbara was immensely proud and dedicated to her family. Her home was always filled with love and laughter. Her joy for life and wickedly outrageous sense of humor were ever present and passed on to her entire family. Barbara had the unusual gift of being able to make each family member believe that they were her favorite, which often caused playful banter between them. In sickness and in health she greeted each day with strength, dignity and her beautiful smile. She will be so sorely missed.

Due to the ongoing public health crisis, funeral services will be delayed and announced at a later date. To leave an online message of condolence please visit gatelyfh.com.
