Longtime Melrose resident worked for several food brokers

MELROSE — Barbara P. “Polly” (Pickering) Hunewill, 96, passed away at MelroseWakefield Hospital on Dec. 20, 2020.

Barbara was born in Somerville on Oct. 17, 1924, to the late John and Evelyn (Brooks) Pickering.

She was raised in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School in 1942. Barbara and her late husband Robert moved to Melrose in 1957 and she has been a resident ever since.

After raising her family Barbara worked for several food brokers in the local area until her retirement at the age of 65.

She loved taking trips with her husband to Europe and Alaska and spending summers at their summer home in Meredith on Lake Winnipesaukee. Barbara also enjoyed knitting, going to bingo with her girlfriends, and was an avid reader.

Mrs. Hunewill was the beloved wife of the late Robert E. Hunewill. Loving mother of Kimberly A. Hall and her husband Pat-Kevin of Melrose and Barbara L. Moretto and her husband Nicholas of Middleton. Cherished grandmother of Nicholas Moretto III and his wife Ilyssa, Robert Moretto and Michaella. Proud great-grandmother of Nicholas Moretto IV and Marciana Rose Moretto. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Due to COVID-19, the funeral service and burial at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose will be private. Arrangements by The Gately Funeral Home, Melrose.
