Played trombone for the Melrose Symphony Orchestra
MELROSE — David A. Hall, a lifelong resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 31, 2023, at age 71.
David was born in Everett on April 18, 1951, one of two sons of the late Robert E. Hall and Florence (MacLean) Hall. Raised in Melrose, David was a 1969 graduate of Melrose High School where his love of music was born as a member of the Melrose Band. He attended Northeastern University, but his true passion was music.
David played trombone for the Melrose Symphony Orchestra for over 40 years. In his free time, he also played other brass instruments including the trumpet, sousaphone and tuba. Gifted musically, he enjoyed arranging music, and played in local marching bands over the years.
An intelligent man, David enjoyed a moment in the spotlight during a three-day appearance on Jeopardy in the 1990’s. With a love for trivia, he helped originate questions for the Melrose Trivia Bee for several years. David enjoyed learning about the history of Melrose, singing in the Choir at the Hillcrest Congregational Church, and remained connected to the Melrose Band for many years.
With simple needs, David was happiest with an instrument in his hand, or learning new facts at his lifelong home in Melrose. He will be lovingly remembered.
David was the loving brother of Donald B. Hall and his wife Fran of Rockville, VA. Caring uncle of Emily Sharp and her husband Ryan of Colorado Springs, CO; Geoffrey Hall and his wife Allie of Glen Allen, VA; Gregory Hall and his wife Kara of Mechanicsville, VA, and Alice Duvecot and her husband Eric of Bumpass, VA. Dear great uncle of Sam, Lachlan, Lucy and Kennedy.
Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to gather in honor of David’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Saturday, April 15 from 9-10 a.m., followed by his funeral service at 10 a.m. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
