WAKEFIELD — David J. Nichols, 61, longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 7, 2019 at High Pointe House in Haverhill.
Born in Boston on November 1, 1957, David is one of three children of the late Robert S. and Joyce (Houlder) Nichols. He grew up in Reading, attending Reading High School. There, he developed a love of gymnastics and music, taking up the drums and the guitar. He would go on to play those instruments throughout his life.
A friendly person, David was close to his circle of friends, and Greenwood Avenue neighbors. He loved spending as much time as he could with his family. He enjoyed playing cribbage with his friend, Kevin and backgammon with his mother. He also traveled to New Hampshire and Nova Scotia with her during the summer months.
He especially liked the lakes region of New Hampshire and loved to ski at Canon Mountain. He also treasured his journey to Japan to visit with his son’s family at Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa, Japan. David worked at Metal Spinners, Inc. in Malden for many years and developed many friendships from his time there.
David enjoyed life, and all the things that made life beautiful to him. He will be deeply missed.
David is the loving father to Garret Nichols and his wife Sharon of Georgia, and Melissa Cote of Fitchburg. Dear brother of Linda Gignac and her late husband Jerry of Lowell and Debbie Estes and her late husband Rob of Indianapolis. Proud grandfather of Ryan. Cherished uncle of Shawn Gignac, Crystal McKiel, Michael Estes, Matthew Estes, Jen Estes Lord, and Geoff Estes. Also survived by his special friends, Kevin and Ruth Johnston of Wakefield.
Relatives and friends gathered in honor of David’s life during visiting hours at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Tuesday, June 11 and again for his funeral service. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. For online tribute or directions: RobinsonFuneralHome.com
