READING — Domenic G. Pittella, of Reading, formerly of Melrose, a 33 year veteran of the Melrose Police Department, died peacefully on July 12, 2021 at the age of 88. Domenic was born in East Boston on February 27, 1933 to Joseph and Mary Vittoria (Nesci) Pittella. He was raised in East Boston, graduated from the Boston Trade School, and earned an Associate Degree from North Shore Community College. Domenic and his late wife, Patricia, lived in Melrose for nearly forty years and spent many years in Saugus as well.

Domenic worked at the Gillette machine shop for ten years before joining the police department. He worked in law enforcement for over thirty years, first as a police officer, then as a detective and lastly as a prosecutor; he was also a member of the Massachusetts Police Association. He enjoyed playing Racquetball at Rt. 1 Racquetball & Fitness and he continued his exercise regiment in his later years at the Reading YMCA. Domenic was a big New England Sports fan and enjoyed tending to his tomato garden.

Domenic was the beloved husband of the late Patricia M. (Gillis) Pittella. Loving father of Lisa M. Cormier and her husband, James, of Reading; Joseph F. Pittella and his wife, Sherri, of Bradford and Mark P. Pittella of Virginia. Proud grandfather of Maria and Victoria Pittella, Steven and Lauren Cormier, and Christian Pittella. Brother of Ida Alleca of Wakefield, the late Nicholas Pittella, and the late Rose DelGreco. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private.
