SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — Donna (Pollack) McCarthy, 72, of Southampton, N.Y. passed peacefully on December 20, 2018 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital after a short illness.

Born in Stoneham, Mass. on March 10, 1946. Beloved mom of John McCarthy and wife Marti of Brooklyn, Justin McCarthy and wife Olivia of Southampton, grandchildren Crispin, Lucas and Bodhi McCarthy, daughter of Sarah (Altieri) Pollack of Melrose, Mass.,  sister Diane Manganaro and husband John, brother David Pollack and wife Debbie, Godchildren Jonathan Manganaro and Madalyn Pollack and many nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Melrose High School in 1964 and lived in Brooklyn Heights from 1975 until recently, moving to Southampton where she and her family summered.

Donna worked in the garment district for several years, successfully selling brands she represented in major department stores like Macy’s and Bloomingdales. She was very active in her Brooklyn community — a director of the Red Cross and a member of the Heights Garden Club, Heights Casino, Mrs. Fields Literary Club and the City of Brooklyn New England Society – she was honored with a key to the Borough for her contributions to the community. She was particularly proud to wear a badge and patrol the neighborhood for the Brooklyn Auxiliary Police Dept. Donna was always helping others. Friends, family, church, gardening, book club, tennis, texting and Facebook were very special to her.

Special services were held on Dec. 24, 2018 through O’Connell Rothwell funeral home at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Eulogies were given by her sons, John and Justin and readings by her grandson, Crispin and Godchildren Jonathan and Madalyn. Burial was held at Southampton Cemetery followed by a reception with friends and loved ones.
