MELROSE — Dorothy L. (Campbell) “Dot” Allen, 97, a longtime Melrose resident, died on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Oosterman’s Rest Home in Melrose.

Dorothy was born in Cambridge, the youngest of eight children of the late Robert J. and Laura M. (Lyle) Campbell. Raised in Everett, Dorothy graduated from Everett High School. She married the late John H. Allen on April 3, 1945. They lived first in Everett before settling in Melrose in the mid 1950’s. Dorothy worked as a Secretary at F.W. Woolworth Company in Boston.

Dorothy was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church in Melrose. In her free time, she was a member of the Community Associates, Inc., the Melrose Mother’s Club, and was an avid traveler with her husband John.

Dorothy is the beloved wife of the late John H. Allen with whom she shared nearly 70 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Annette A. Hilton of Palo Alto, Calif., and the late Gretchen L. Allen. Dear sister of the late Elmer Campbell, Lyle Hall, Reginald Hall, Warren Hall, Minetta Turner, Sarah Stockbridge, and Robert Hall. Cherished grandmother of Teresa Hilton and her husband Matthew Roth of Palo Alto, Calif.

Relatives and friends gathered in honor of Dot’s life for her funeral service at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, Feb. 27. Interment at MA National Cemetery, Bourne. For online tribute, or directions visit RobinsonFuneralHome.com.
