MELROSE — Edward J. Canavan, 88,  died at Bear Hill Nursing Center on November 24, 2019.

Ed was born in South Boston to the late Joseph and Marg (Bergh) Canavan. He was raised in South Boston, lived in East Boston for 15 years, Melrose for 25 years, Middleton for over 10 years before returning to Melrose.

Mr. Canavan served his country with pride in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a Bronze Star recipient. In 2018, he received the Peace Medal from Korea.

Ed was a printer by trade working at Spaulding Printing, Boston Printing Company and Relief Printing over a 30 year span. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus in South Boston.

A loving husband to Mary A. (Sulkey) Canavan. Cherished brother of Irene Shea of Hyde Park, Joseph Canavan of Canton, Paul Canavan of Quincy and the late Rita Jansky and the late Mary Mogan. He was also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.
