Served in the Royal Air Force during WWII

MELROSE Frank Callahan of Melrose passed away at Glen Ridge Nursing Center in Medford on September 23, 2021. He was 93 years of age.

Frank was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, lived in Everett for six years and Melrose for over 60 years. Mr. Callahan has been a carpenter since a teenager and owned and operated Frank Callahan Carpentry based in Melrose for over fifty years. His company slogan was “quality work + reasonable prices = satisfied customer.”

Frank served in the Royal Air Force during the WWII era, coached youth soccer locally and was an excellent poet and had several works go to print throughout the years. He was an avid golfer, playing at all the local golf courses and was an avid reader right up until the end. But above all, he was a soccer fan and loved the Glasgow Celtic Football Club and would travel across the world to go to a match.

Frank was the beloved husband of the late Sarah C. (Craig) Callahan. Devoted father of John F. Callahan and Carole of Everett; Francis T. Callahan and Sonia of Raynham; Peter W. O’Callaghan and Kim of Waltham and David A. Callahan and Suzanne of New Ipswich, NH. Cherished grandfather of Mary and Kaitlyn, Joshua, Daniel and Brittany, Aidan, Liam, Charley and Grace, Sophie, Maya and Dylan. He was the middle child of nine siblings and is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, on Monday, September 27,2021 from 5 -7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Mary’s Church, 9 Herbert St. Melrose on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at 10 a.m., followed by a burial at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
