WESTWOOD — Garry N. Bean, 93, a resident of Westwood, and formerly of Peabody and Naples, Fla., passed away peacefully at NewBridge on the Charles in Dedham on Sunday, June 17, 2018.

Garry was one of two children of the late Charles E. and Elizabeth (Parkes) Bean. He was raised in Melrose where he excelled as a student-athlete, playing football, hockey and basketball. After graduating from Melrose High School, he proudly served his country in the Eighth Army Air Force as a Bombardier, Second Lieutenant during WWII. Following his honorable discharge, Garry earned his bachelor’s degree from Boston University. He was married to Nancy C. Bowman, and settled in Melrose to raise his family.

A true business man, Garry established himself in the materials handling industry as the President and Owner of NITCO in Wilmington. With Garry’s drive he built a successful business through dedication, hard work and customer satisfaction. At the age of 55, he sold his business, and enjoyed retirement in Naples, Fla. and Peabody with his wife.

An avid golfer, Garry was a longtime member of Salem Country Club in Peabody and of Imperial Country Club in Naples, Fla. Garry was an animal lover, who provided charitable contributions to Best Friends Animal Society in Utah and many other organizations. He was also a longtime member of the Aleppo Temple Shrine in Wilmington.

Garry was the beloved husband of the late Nancy C. (Bowman) Bean with whom he shared 54 years of marriage. He is survived by his son, Garry N. Bean, Jr. and wife Janet of Walpole, and daughter Susan E. Haley and husband Robert of Norfolk. He is predeceased by his son, Randall C. Bean. Dear brother of the late Martha “Marti” Ackerson and her late husband Thomas. Also survived by one nephew and two nieces.
