An antique collector who traded at the Brimfield Flea Markets
MELROSE James F. Thompson, longtime resident of Melrose, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. He was 85.

Born in Melrose on March 2, 1936, James was the son of the late Archer F. And Wilna (Shaw) Thompson. He grew up in Melrose graduating from Melrose High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill receiving a bachelor’s degree.

After college, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed at Naval Air Station Port Lyautey in Morocco. He developed many lifelong friendships there. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1959.

Upon his return stateside, he went to work for Little Brown Publishing as an editor focusing on aviation related books. He enjoyed antiquing and was an active antique trader at the Brimfield Flea Markets. James also took care of his aunt and mother in their later years.

James is survived by his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends were invited to gather during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, September 23 from 9-10 a.m., and for his funeral service celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment with Military Honors provided by the United States Navy at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
