MELROSE — Joan M. (Dargon) Vaughan, 86, of Melrose, passed away on May 16, 2018.

Joan was born in Boston on December 2, 1931 to the late James and Sarah (Driscoll) Dargon. She was raised in Boston and attended Boston public schools. Joan worked at the Schrafts Building, Transitron, and 3 C’s Chemical Company in her early years. Joan settled in Melrose to raise her family with her husband, the late Robert Vaughan, and spent over 50 years in Melrose.

She loved to read and cook, she was particularly known for her coffee cakes. Family was everything to Joan, she loved family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by them all.

Joan was the beloved wife of the late Robert T. Vaughan. Loving mother of Patricia Vaughan Goddard of Westford, Stephen D. Vaughan and his wife Paula of Melrose, Eric M. Vaughan and his late wife Julie of Manchester, N.H., and the late Robert A. Vaughan and his former wife Chrisann of Malden. Proud grandmother of Christopher, Joshua, Meridith, Jennifer, Stephen Jr., Sarah, Eric Jr., Kyle and the late Shannamarie. Great-grandmother of Caeleigh, Abigail, and Oliver. Sister of Claire Caton of Peabody, Jackie Dargon of Milton, and the late Rita Vaughan, Francis Dargon, Jimmy Dargon, and Gertrude Longval. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours were held on Monday, May 21, at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose. Funeral procession from Gately Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 22, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
