A loving brother and uncle who enjoyed skiing in the White Mountains

MELROSE — John F. Callahan passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on November 6, 2022; he was 86 years of age. John was born in Melrose on October 15, 1936 to the late Thomas L. and Elizabeth (Scanlon) Callahan.

He was raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School then entered the US Army and served his country with pride in the US National Guard during the Vietnam War. After his discharge he graduated from Boston University.

John spent many years living in Melrose for over 60 years, Portsmouth, N.H. for many years, Malden, and Wakefield for several years. John worked as a real estate appraiser and then as a financial analyst for Dean Whitter and Ropes & Gray in Portsmouth, N.H.

John was the brother of William Callahan of Reading and the late Thomas Callahan II and his late wife Jane. Proud uncle of Thomas L. Callahan & his wife Jennifer of Amherst, NH. Cherished uncle of Molly, Grace & Abigail.

John loved to ski in the White Mountains and was a loving brother, uncle, and great uncle. A graveside service will be held at Lakeside Cemetery on Friday, November 18, 2022, at 11 a.m. To leave an online message of condolence please visit gatelyfh.com.
