MELROSE — Joseph Hinchey Jr., 81, passed away at The Elmhurst Health Care in Melrose on Sunday, July 1, 2018.

Joe was born on April 4, 1937 to the late Joseph and Louise (Riley) Hinchey. He was raised in Melrose, graduated from Malden Catholic High School, Class of 1954 and from Boston College in 1958. Mr. Hinchey entered the US Navy in 1958 and served his country with pride during the Vietnam War. After his discharge he worked as an industrial mechanic at Gillette for over 10 years and then for the Malden Public School System for 15 years. Joseph enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood carving and wood burning. Mr. Hinchey treasured the times spent with his family at Newfound Lake in New Hampshire.

He was the beloved husband of 56 years to Eileen M. (Mongeau) Hinchey. Loving father of Michael Hinchey and his wife Kelly of Melrose, Kenneth Hinchey of Wakefield, Kevin Hinchey of Northboro and the late Edward Hinchey. Cherished grandfather of Cole, Rachel, Max, Jake, Samantha, Sherilyn and Jason. Caring brother of Marylou Bowen of Longmeadow. Also survived by numerous, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Thursday, July 5 from 5-8 p.m. Funeral procession from the Gately Funeral Home on Friday morning July 6 at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, 9 Herbert St. Melrose at 10 a.m. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
