MELROSE — Lucille E. (Armstrong) Ventura, 76, of Melrose, died at home surrounded by her family on September 13, 2018.

Lucille was born and raised in Somerville and a graduate of Somerville High School, Class of 1961. She went on to attend Hickock Secretarial School in Boston and worked as a Secretary for Somerville Lumber in Somerville and Waltham for many years. Lucille resided in Somerville for many years, Malden for five years, Chelmsford for 14 years and the past year in Melrose. She enjoyed baking, cooking, bingo, watching the Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune. Lucille loved spending time playing the slot machines, scratch tickets, taking care of children and spending Saturday night with “The Elders.”

Lucille was the beloved wife of the late Robert A. Ventura, Sr. for 49 years. Loving mother of Randy R. Ventura and his wife Mirisa of Melrose and Rodney R. Ventura and his wife Betty-Jo of Leominister. Devoted daughter of the late James and Grace (Johnson) Armstrong. Cherished grandmother of Owen, Maeghan and Joshua. Caring sister of Frank Armstrong and his late wife Joanne of Woburn, Thomas Armstrong and his wife Rita of Malden, Richard Armstrong and his wife Dale of Revere, Jack Armstrong and his wife Diane of Fla., George Armstrong of Somerville, Marie Sotiros and her husband James of Burlington, Kathleen Marcotti of Malden, Patricia Sutherland of Wilmington and the late Helen Kowachich and her late husband James, late Elizabeth Armstrong, late James Armstrong and his late wife Louise, late Charles Abell and his wife Barbara of Fla.. sister-in-law of Jean Barry and her late husband James “Don” of Somerville. Grand dogs Shamus and Willy. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visiting hours were held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday, Sept. 17, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend. Burial was at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
