MELROSE — Marcia E. Martin, 83, of Melrose, died December 14, 2019.
She was born in Winchester on June 19, 1936, to William E. and Margaret (deGruchy) Easson. Predeceased by her husband of 48 years, David J. Martin, Jr., and her son William B. Martin.
Mrs. Martin lived her entire life in Melrose, graduating from Melrose High School in 1954. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide in nursing homes as well as providing at-home care. Marcia was active in the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church, which she joined in 1951, and stayed faithful until the day she died. She was a Sunday school teacher, Girl Scout leader, Boy Scout commissioner, Red Cross CPR instructor, and active in local politics. Marcia loved the ocean and sailing, knitting, reading, and the Red Sox. Most importantly, she loved to spend time with her family and friends.
Marcia was the mother of Lois Martin of Melrose, David W. Martin and his wife Elizabeth of Londonderry, N.H., Susan Gilman and her husband Christopher of Hudson, N.H., and the late William B. Martin. Grandmother and step-grandmother of Rachel Connell and her husband Timothy, John Surette, Sydney and Jonathan Martin, and Nicolas, Jonathan, and Kimberly Gilman. Great-grandmother and step great-grandmother of Lilah and Scarlett Connell, Sora DeGray, and Emerson, Lenore, and Graham Gilman.
A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 18 at the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church, 355 Franklin St., Melrose. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
