MELROSE — Margaret E. “Margie” McCarte, 84, passed away at her home in Melrose on October 30, 2018.

Margie was born in Melrose. She was raised in Melrose, graduated from St. Mary’s Grammar and St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1951. A lifelong resident and member of St. Mary’s Church, she was an Eucharistic Minister, a former member of St. Mary’s Ladies Sodality and served on the alter for many funeral Masses over the years. Miss McCarte worked at the New England Telephone Company for over 40 years and was a member of the N.E. Telephone Pioneers.

Margie was a world traveler, enjoyed taking trips with her sister Kay to Nepal, the Arctic, Antarctica and throughout the United States and Europe. She also enjoyed going to her ski house in Campton, N.H. and skied at Waterville Valley, Loon Mountain, Bretton Woods and other ski areas in the White Mountains and Colorado. Margie skied right up until the age of 80.

She was the daughter of the late Edward E. and Katherine (Morrissey) McCarte. Caring sister of Katherine M. “Kay” McCarte and the late Sister Evelyn Frances McCarte DC and Elizabeth A. “Betty” McCarte. Also survived by many cousins.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Nov. 3, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, 9 Herbert St. Melrose Burial was at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Margie’s memory to St. Mary’s Church, 46 Myrtle St. Melrose, MA 02176.
